Newtown Planting Scheme

Claire Pullen was kind enough to attend from West Wiltshire District Council. She is responsible for grounds maintenance. She said that they have put forward plans for planters along Newtown, jointly funded by Trowbridge Town Council and WWDC, also pole baskets, baskets on railings and hanging baskets on lampposts. However, there is no money for this at the moment. She said that at this stage we should persist in pushing for hanging baskets on lampposts. She said that the new Unitary Authority will have their own priorities, so we need to keep making our voices heard. Claire will keep Sharon Draper up to date with contacts at the new Unitary Authority. Claire will email Sharon with Bill Pullen’s contact details.

The Highways Agency might be able to help with the funding for the lighting, after April/June when the new Unitary Authority will be in place and they know what their budgets will be.

Fran said that this was still a mess and that she would try and tackle some of it herself. Anyone who wants to assist, please contact Fran on 01225 710457.

Stallard Street

The blocked drain should be cleared this May, according to an email from the Highways Agency forwarded by Graham.

West Wilts Show 2009

It was decided that we would man a stall for one day on the Saturday. Lisa said that she would happily participate in this.

Police & Community Report

PC JO Bagg attended with colleague, Jurek. Jo said that they had compiled a Community Safety Audit to give to the County Council. It suggests improvements such as better lighting along the footpaths and the gating off of several alleyways, such as the cut through between Gloucester Road and Pitman Avenue. This audit followed survey forms given to residents along Bond Street and adjoining houses.
Jo said that 2 young offenders caused damage to 25 cars from Bradford on Avon to Trowbridge, but they had not been apprehended. She said that police/PCSO patrols will be increased for the next few Sundays as Sundays seem to be getting busier.
She was asked about Neighbourhood Watch Schemes and she said that these are usually for areas which do not already have a Residents’ Association.
Iron gates are being stolen for scrap value.
Garages behind Newtown, on Henderson Close and behind the Ship Inn have been broken into.
Poor streetlighting has been addressed in the Community Safety Audit.
Drew & Mark are putting up CCTV cameras and have meanwhile been given information by Jo and Maria that these are legal as long as they do not look directly onto private houses.

Next meeting will take place on Thursday 26th March 2009.
Stewart Palmen will be doing a presentation on the Street Pastors. Wish Jo Bagg “Good Luck” if you see her – she’s going for her Sergeant’s exam on Tuesday 10th March 2009.
