Apologes for the order of the minutes, this is currently being edited.

MINUTES 24 APRIL 2009

Attendees: Fran Markotic (chair), Claudia Hodds (minutes),

Apologies: PC Jim Adams (Community Beat Manager)

The minutes of the March meeting were approved without amendments.

Graffiti

Garage in Bond Street has been vandalised with very offensive graffiti, also bins and walls in the area. Parked cars in Waterworks Road were marked with felt-tip pen. PCSOs are going to ask around to find out whose garage it is and to try to ask the owners whether they would overpaint the graffiti.

Police Update

Maria no longer our PCSO, she has been replaced by PCSO Joe Leeds. Jo Bagg no longer Beat Manager for the area, PC Jim Adams is new Community Beat Manager. He will try to attend the June meeting to introduce himself. Newtown is now part of Trowbridge Central, which is a larger area than College & Newtown previously. Forthcoming NARA events

Skittles evening – Saturday 2 May at 07:00 to be held at Wesley Road Club. Teresa created great posters, which are to be displayed in the area. Mary has provided raffle tickets and will sell them on the evening. Prizes to be brought along on the evening. Will try to play in two teams rather than individual players, and will try to get a teenager to put up the skittles.

Car Boot Sale in Wesley Road Club car park – Fran to book car park from 13:00 on a Sunday at the end of June / beginning of July.

Speakers

It was suggested to invite somebody from Trowbridge Museum to talk about the history of Newtown. Other than that there were no suggestions for future speakers. Please can everyone think about this.

Bond Street

The front garden of no. 42 has at last been cleared up.
Car park is filled up with rubbish - owner apparently allowed his tenants to leave it there.
Somebody has been driving a car down the Bond St Buildings alleyway, which could damage drains located underneath the surface. Hilly asked the driver not to drive there, but he just ignored her.
Parking on double yellow lines between Bond St and Wesley Rd has become worse recently.

Newtown

Big articulated lorries (incl. Sainsbury’s, ASDA, Langdons) have recently been going down Newtown, rather than County Way, ignoring the weight limit. It might help to ring up the companies concerned to point this out to them and ask them to tell their drivers not to use Newtown.

Old Rectory

Hedge is growing over footpath at roundabout in Stallard St, it is becoming difficult to pass. Fran will ask the Parish Stewart if he can help. Teresa is working on a solution, but it cannot just be done by their handy man because the insurance won’t cover this in case anyone gets hurt. Would have to get a company in, which would be too expensive.

Recycling

The Household Recycling Centre no longer accepts other plastics, but TetraPaks can still be recycled.

NARA Chair / Secretary

Fran will step down as chair at the AGM in September, no matter whether there is a replacement or not. We urgently need volunteers for the positions of Chair and Secretary.

John Knight – Mayor

Has been living in Newtown area for 25 years. Has been mayor for the past 11 months, will have to stand down next month as term in office always is just 12 months. Works full-time, does his duties as mayor in his own time. Gave an overview of what it is like to be mayor of Trowbridge.
